Been trying to do a little yard clean up every day that it's not raining. Today I finished raking out the gardens. Some of the perennials are not coming back as fully as they usually do. I'm thinking a lot of it has to do with last year's drought.

Not feeling so well today but managed to rake for about a half hour and get all the leaves over to the retaining wall on the south side of the yard. Windy from the south today so this helped shield them from blowing back to where they started. Dale was a gem and bagged them all up later. 

Grill Garden

Raked out the grill garden today. I thinking of gutting the whole thing this year and starting anew.

Sticks

Didn't have much time to work in the yard today but I did have a chance to pick up a few sticks.

Just trying to do a little bit every day.

More Yard Work

Finished edging the back walk and finished cutting up the spruce top. I wonder what I'll end up putting in this planter.

Snow day a week ago today. 

We had quite the blizzard and ended up with 16 inches of snow over that tax day weekend.

Started on some yard work today.

Backyard walk is getting quite overgrown so I did some edging.  

I got some of the spruce top arrangement into yard waste bags.

Rhubarb

Did an hour's worth of yard work after school today. Rhubarb is huge. Seeds are high.

Worked hard in the yard this weekend. A heap of branches, some of them quite sizable, had been piling up behind the rhubarb. Yesterday I broke them down and for some I needed the saw and the ax.  My first ax chop caused me to fall down, but thankfully I was on soft grass and it was the kind of fall that was easy to roll into. Some well rooted saplings were growing up through the branches and took some doing to dig up. It's hard to see how many branches there were as the saplings covered them up (see top photo). The project took just over an hour.

Yard Work

Have been working the past couple days on the pictured part of the yard. It's starting to look as if someone is actually tending to it.

First 70 Degree Day

They say it's been 6 months since the last 70 degree day. Today felt glorious.  I even got a little yard pick-up done.

Workin'

Did a little yard work tonight. Just a few leaves on the southern side of the lawn.

More Yard Work

I pulled up a lot of annuals this afternoon. I put together this arrangement of some of the few things left that do okay in the cold.

Pick Up Sticks

Did some yard work yesterday. I'm so much farther behind where I was at this time last year. It's been wet and so much more cold that the idea of working outside hasn't been appealing. Yesterday afternoon was quite lovely. The pile of sticks you see in the photograph is about half as high as when I started. It felt good to get a little bit done. You can see the rhubarb getting started...

Yard Work

Got outside today for the first session of yardwork for the season and got some raking done. It's warm enough outside that I actually had to come in and put on some shorts! Dale opened up all the first floor windows because it's actually warmer outside than inside. THAT hasn't happened in a while.

The top photo shows one of our backyard gardens. If you look closely you can see a tiny patch of snow just right of the center of the picture. The bottom photo shows a bowl of pansies that Dale and I picked up at Kowalski's today.
