A Glorious Day

Saturday, May 7, 2022

Ok, today was not just a nice day, it was a glorious day. It's been four months of grey skies and colder than average temperatures.

We have dinner plans at Gary and Warren's place tonight. Dale ran to the store to pick up some wine and appetizers so I could get started on my cigar.

Listened to some music...

When Dale returned from the store he joined me outside and we each had a glass of pre-get-together wine.

We talked about how we wish we could both be retired NOW.

Morning Walk

Saturday, May 1, 2021

Took a nice walk this morning. Already 72 degrees by 10:30.

Still appreciating the azaleas which seem to be everywhere. One doesn't appreciate how many of them there actually are around the neighborhood until they're blooming. Otherwise they just look like any old shrub.

Continuing to appreciate the sunshine after such a gloomy April.

I found Warren puttering in his front yard as I walked by his house. His cats said hello to me from inside his porch.

Another Great Day

Sunday, April 18, 2021

Another pleasant day for sitting out in the back yard.

And listening to jazz.

I smoked the last of the little Cohibas Warren brought back for me from Havana.

St. Joseph's Day 2021 - St. Joseph's Day Cigar

Friday, March 19, 2021

Quiet St. Joseph's Day. Wore some red. Had one of the little Cohiba cigars Warren brought back for me from Havana. Dale and I had pizza for dinner and Dove bars for dessert. Watched Big Bang Theory.

Second Dose - Saturday: Vaccine Day

Saturday, March 6, 2021

Got the Moderna vaccine this morning at 11:00. Glad to be done with it. It’s a tangible sign that we’re moving away from this pandemic.

I hear lots of folks have a strong reaction to the second dose 12-15 hours after it's administered. I'm going to take advantage of feeling well while I can.

Listened to Art Blakey.

Smoked one of the little Cohibas Warren brought back for me from Havana and sat back and enjoyed the sunshine.

Warren's

I was over at Warren's Friday for dinner. We sat on his back porch for cocktails. His yard always looks so good.

The Calla Lilies Are In Bloom

Visited my friend Warren in California this past weekend. He's living in San Jose and his roommate has some beautiful calla lilies in the backyard.

Peony Buds

Can't wait for the peonies to bloom. I planted some during the late part of summer in 2012. Deb was getting rid of them and asked me if I wanted them. They came back in 2013 but no flowers. They're back again this year but I'm not seeing any buds. I'll keep my fingers crossed. The ones pictured above are on Warren's blooming boulevard. I remember when my family moved into the house on Stevens so many years ago. There must have been about 10 peony bushes lined up along where the driveway bordered the yard. I remember watching the ants crawl over the buds and, being so young and not in the know about such things, asked Mom why they were doing this. She said they actually helped the buds open and that there must be something on the buds they liked.

Urban Wildlife

My friend and neighbor, Warren, had me over for drinks and dinner the other night.  It was a gorgeous evening so we started by having cocktails in his backyard.  He showed me all of his new flowers and then headed inside to freshen up his drink.  As I was standing in the yard I had a distinct feeling that someone was watching me.  I checked at eye-level in every direction but couldn't spot anyone.  I decided to look up.  There on his roof was what looked like a squirrel's head.  It didn't move, so at first I thought maybe it was ornamental.  Then after a few moments it gave itself away by twitching its head but then became very still again.  I slowly got out my camera and shot the picture you see above.  When Warren came back out I told him to look up.  He did.  He smiled and asked if I could snap a picture.  I told him I already had.

Warren and Gary

Stopped by the house of our friends' Warren and Gary today to drop off a few things. Their backyard looks gorgeous.
