Four weeks back at work and I’m sick as a dog. Nasty cold. Sitting out in the back yard enjoying the gorgeous weather and listening to Linda Ronstadt. It really feels good to just stop.

Broken Wrist
The erratic freeze/melt cycles this past winter made for treacherous walking. I don't remember ice quite this bad, EVER.

Fell on the ice a couple nights ago while walking Athena. My feet went out from under me and I slipped backward. My left hand made first contact with the ground and my tush second.
I didn’t feel much pain at first leading me to surmise I most likely didn’t break my wrist but rather strained or sprained it. It continued to feel mostly fine through dinner and didn’t start to hurt a little until bedtime. My plan was to call the nurse’s line in the morning but it hurt enough when I woke up that I decided to go to urgent care. Glad I did.
Dale took me in and was sweet to stay with me as it ended up being a rather long wait. Long story longer, an x-ray showed that a teeny tiny bone had been broken. The doctor told me it will heal on it’s own but that I would need a splint. So thankful I didn’t need a cast and that I didn’t land on my dominant hand. Interesting a little bitty bone can cause such pain.
It amazes me how much one takes for granted the smallest movents the hand makes. Buttoning, zipping, dressing, is all taking twice as long! Again, just thankful it wasn’t worse than it was. Note: shaking a cocktail and lifting a martini glass can both be done with the wrist in a stationary position.
Ice Dams
The erratic freeze/melt cycles this past winter made ice dams worse than I've ever seen. Below are some entries and photos from one of my other blogs. And, not to worry, safety precautions were taken during the shooting of these photos. The ladder was leaning into and propped up by the clothesline pole and the wires you see were no where near as close as the photos make them look. My photographer (Dale, of course) kept a close eye on me.
"We’ve had SO much snow over the last 7 weeks and it’s been quite a number of years since we’ve had ice dams this bad. What you see in the above photos is despite doing a pretty good job of keeping the roof raked. I worked on another part of the roof yesterday and here I’m just getting started on a part of the roof right above the kitchen sink."
"Hard at work. In the first picture I’m holding the hatchet with my good hand. This is the hand I chopped with. Don’t worry, I didn’t chop with the hand with the broken wrist as the second picture would seem to suggest. I’m just hamming it up for Dale’s photo. The broken wrist doesn’t hurt when it’s in the splint and held steady. "
"Good work."

Odd Winter
Odd year weather-wise. January was more like March and March was more like January.
Once winter kicked in it was overcast more than usual and didn't want to release its grip. It lasted forever but eventually relented to a late, long, dark gloomy spring. I usually do okay with winter but this year really took its toll.
Once in a great while there was a bright, beautiful, sunny day. Above photo dated March 10, 2019. Odd winter but I have a feeling this may be the new normal.
The following was posted on 3-10-19 on one of my other blogs:
"We ended up with about 5 inches of wet, heavy snow overnight. Thanks to Dale for all the shoveling. I helped a little but only as much as was comfortable for my wrist. You’d think the months noted in the top to pictures should be reversed! Also, the flocked trees are even more beautiful than they look in the picture at the bottom."

Bunnies
Have been lax about posting this year. We had a white rabbit living in our yard. This photo was taken on August 2. Haven't seen him lately and hope he's okay.
Found this little guy on a neighbor's steps while out walking Athena. Very cute.
Full Moon
Friday, September 13, 2019
My, it's been awhile since I've written here. Tonight's the full moon and I've heard it's the first one on Friday the 13th in nearly 20 years (Oct. 13, 2000). Dale tells me there won't be another one for about 30 more (August 13, 2049). Cloudy all day today but the sky finally cleared this evening. The moon is visible and it's beautiful.
Then there's this...
And, whoa, was it a doozy.
Here's a picture of the full moon sent to me by my friend Warren. He's staying at his parent's lake place.
