Setting Sun

I'm lovin' how much daylight we're getting right now and I love how the sun hits the tops of the trees while it's setting. These photos from the neighborhood were taken at 8:30 p.m.!

Purple Flowers

Found these gorgeous purple flowers growing on a neighbor's blooming boulevard. I'm not sure what kind they are.

Happy Memorial Day 2012

I was in Leavenworth recently spending some time at Sam's house. Here's a picture of the flag in his front yard.

Mark's Peonies

Mark, our neighbor across the street, has some peonies growing on his blooming boulevard. I grew up with pink peonies but think the white ones are pretty too. The smell of them brings me right back to the backyard of the house on Stevens.

Bleeding Hearts

It's the time of year for bleeding hearts. I love 'em.

Salvia

The salvia is in full bloom. It looks beautiful.

Robin Eggs

Our neighbor Megan has a shrub in her front yard that she was going to pull up when she noticed two robin's eggs in a nest hiding beneath the greenery. Over the last two days two more eggs have appeared. They really are beautiful!

Jim's Bridal Wreath Spirea

I did some research today to see if I could find out what kind of shrub it is that Jim hacked down yesterday. I googled "flowering", "bush", and "white" and came up with a match. It turns out the bush is known as bridal wreath spirea. Well, I talked to Jim again today and it looks like he's going to let the bridal wreath come back again and that he plans to keep them trimmed and somewhat shorter. What a relief! The top shot is of what he trimmed yesterday which is now awaiting yard waste pickup in the alley.

Bridal Wreath Spirea

Okay, I was washing dishes this morning, minding my own business, looking out our kitchen window, noticing how our backyard ferns (see previous post) were looking unusually tall, when I noticed our neighbor Jim walking around his back yard. I thought it odd since it is so difficult to see any movement in Jim's back yard due to the bridal wreath spiria bushes. That was when it hit me. The bridal wreath spiria bushes were gone! Now, the flowers on bridal wreath spirea bushes appear at this time of year for only a short period so I'm glad I took a couple of pictures of them a few days ago. I ran into Jim a little later today and he told me he felt they were starting to die out and that he was tired of trimming them. What could I say? They're his bushes, but, to be honest, I could cry...

Ferns

We've had a lot of heavy rain lately which will hopefully bring an end to the drought. The ferns are really filling out.

Orange Flowers

I noticed these on one of my walks this week. I'm not sure what these are but they sure are pretty.
